I meditate with my eyes open. Soaking up this visual world like a sponge, existing in a state of "awe", is a blessing for a painter. Standing before the canvas, I release this reservoir and work with the painting. I honor the magic that happens-by knowing when to stand back, when to go with the current, and when to exert my will. The manner in which I paint is therefore always a journey into the unknown. It is a dance, a gamble. I do not labor with a conception of a painting. I welcome the painting, and the viewer, to "see" the possibilities.
Painting is a luxury, I suppose a gift, it is. Karma? It chose me.
It teaches to respond moment to moment and let go of pre-conceptions.
It trains the eye to see the beauty in the ordinary as well as the sublime.
I love to paint.
So, the top ten reasons I paint are:
| 10  | I get to |
| 9  | I want to |
| 8  | I have to |
| 7  | She's doin her own thing |
| 6  | No new snow |
| 5  | No water, no permit, no paddlin |
| 4  | Basketball aint happen |
| 3  | Its rainin outside, hard |
| 2  | The deck is cleared |
And the number 1 reason I paint... because I can.
